more thoughts on strands
Over the past two - three weeks i’ve been slightly neglecting the internets, and instead of focusing on catching up on many TV shows….
Anyway I thought it was worth noting down some thoughts on strands.com - the latest thing ive been using, and so far i think i’ll be sticking with strands (and recommending it to anyone who uses flickr or, well, any online sharing tool!)
Notes…. and these aren’t rants - the product is in beta and they’re honest opinions / ideas, they didnt stand out i had to think about them…
1) public timeline view (http://www.strands.com/wehttam) - I have noticed when loading it sometimes its out of date, and earlier it listed by 10 latest played songs from last.fm as the last things done, wrongly. However 5 minutes later it was back up to date in the right order. My question if anything would be as a developer intrigued to know how and when strands visits each users stream?
2) when logged in there is a share something button in the top right, i suppose its personal preference but i’d much prefer it was one button then loaded the types of items to share rather than 9 or so mini icons…
3) inbox - same again personal preference but for notifications etc it would be good to auto mark as read when that page is loaded rather than click on the blue icon,
4) home - currently all categories is highlighted and you can show one specific - why not highlight all the icons and turn off ones you dont want i.e. maybe id like my default view to show images, video clips and miscellaneous?
5) rss importing - again more from a developer view… I’m going to pick up the development again on slypoll.com and part of it will be a user area so users can share all their poll’s in one central place. I plan to offer rss2 or similar and it would be nice to have some way of testing how it would look if i shared it on strands …
6) finally, should i really be able to like and dislike my own items? surely its for other people to decide? oo and a favorite button might be an idea?
